In 1996, 4 operators of a scrap metal processor, were experiencing difficulty accessing enough outsourced trucking to assist with their operations. After helping several small companies grow their fleets to a size where they did not desire to service the scrap industry. Roane Transportation Services, LLC was formed in May of 1996, and began operations with 2 Semi Trucks, and Dump Trailers.

Initially RTS hauled only end dump material, but as markets come and go, so do opportunities. RTS continued to respond to the new opportunities by adding qualified personnel, additional equipment, and updating facilities. Due to the needs of its growing customer base, RTS added Flatbed, and Van equipment to its services. In 1999, a fifth partner was brought onboard, to oversee and expand its operations. Fleet size had grown to 18 units.

RTS continued to expand with each new opportunity. In 2000 RTS contracted with Fleetguard/Cummins to move all of its Intermodal Containers to and from the International Ports. In 2001 services were again expanded by the addition of Pneumatic Tankers for Dry Bulk commodities. Fleet size was at 30 units.

By 2003, RTS had purchased an 18 acre site in the Roane County Industrial Park, complete with 70,000sf of Warehousing space, and a 10 car NS Rail Siding to move its operations to. Fleet is now over 40 units.

Roane Specialized Services, LLC (RSS) was formed in 2003 as well. RSS was formed to expand end dump operations, and assist the D.O.E with movements of Class 7 commodities. Roll off container services were added thru RSS for customers in the scrap metal, and waste industry.

Warehousing, and Transloading to or from the railroad were again new ventures for RTS. Even though this opportunity proved challenging, by the end of 2003, RTS is successful in Warehousing, and Transload, or Reload work for customers such as Huber Engineered Woods, and Strongwell, Inc.

By the end of 2003, and the early part of 2004, RTS diversified its fleet again by adding Conestoga type Flatbed equipment. The addition of these, as well as the RSS equipment, brought the combined available fleet to 60+ units, where it stands today.

We have truly been fortunate to have the opportunities we now have, and thru our most valuable asset, our dedicated workforce, and their determination, RTS is now a successful Transportation, Logistics, Warehouse, and Reload Center.

We continue to strive for excellent, personal services, at competitive rates with a broad range of customers.
